Workshop Description
How can we perceive the vibrating world, within and without, in its infinitude and detail, fragility and fluctuation, through our sounding bodies? How can we attune to that which we cannot see but which affects us deeply?
In Sanskrit, the word for musical tone is swara: "that which makes its own sweetness." Swara encompasses breath, vowel, and the entire dimension of musical pitch. We will practice swara expansively--as a portal to open our perception of space and time, emotion and energy, and our bodies as channels of sound.
Each class will begin with a period of guided practice, followed by individual and collective improvisation to play with possibilities generated by this process of listening and sounding.
