Do It Yourself Shiatsu: Self-treatment in time of Isolation
This class offers participants helpful tools to deal with stress and anxiety through basic self-treatment techniques influenced from Japanese Shiatsu massage. Participants will be guided through self-massage techniques as well as some stretches to promote the natural flow of energy in the body. By using fingers and palms to contact specific pressure points, participants will trace meridians (energy pathways in the body) where stress can be felt to encourage greater rejuvenation and relaxation.
The class will also offer a basic understanding of the natural flows of energy in the body and its different qualities as experienced through the five-element theory: Fire, Wood, Earth, Water, Metal. This information will help participants understand their own natural habits to help them locate where energy might be blocked and how to promote natural healing through self-touch to find a more calming sense of balance.
As we experience isolation and physical distancing, our natural need to be touched for healing is even greater.
The class is usually done mostly sitting on the floor, you can sit on something comfortable like a carpet, Yoga mat, pillow, or even bare-floor, as long as you're comfortable. Please wear comfortable, loose clothing.
Like most Movement Research classes, this is open to all levels.
Movement Research Zoom Etiquette:
- We ask that you "mute" yourself at all times, unless Faculty has asked you to verbally participate.
- If you’re dropping in to see how this class might suit you, please keep your video off. Send a message to let your instructor know ("Chat" > "Chat with Host"). It can be disorienting for both your instructor and fellow participants to see a video in which someone is inattentive or not participating.
- Have a question or concern? Use the chat function to communicate with the class and/or teacher.
Payment and Support:
Most of Movement Research online programming is FREE! We welcome donations of any size on our Support page here >>
