This Studies Project features MR Publishing, which currently consists of the Movement Research Performance Journal (MRPJ) and Critical Correspondence (CC).
Envisioning the evening as an Open House with the intention to offer points of access to meet and be in dialogue with MR Editors and past Contributors, the event will begin with a conversation between Joshua Lubin-Levy, Editor-in-Chief of MR Publishing and Takahiro Yamamoto, Editor of Critical Correspondence. The moderated conversation will be followed by a community roundtable to open discussion to include past Contributors to the journals as well as attendees. Intended topics include the role of publishing at Movement Research and the field at large, offering a moment to collectively assess the “state of the field” of dance writing and publishing and how that interfaces with artistic practices; how MR Publishing serves as a “thinking space” for dancers who write; discussing the digital landscape and the possibilities and limitations of writing and publishing about dance in the virtual space; and ways to engage and support the next generation of dance writers.
