A free, high visibility low-tech forum for experimentation, emerging ideas, and works-in-progress held in the Fall and Spring seasons. Artists are selected by a rotating committee of peer artists, and join Movement Research Artists-In-Residence and international guests each season in performing at the historic Judson Church.

The accessible entrance is located at 243 Thompson St. and the elevator at Judson Church is currently working. Personnel from the Judson Church will be at the entrance. The elevator connects Level 1 (street access) to Level 3 (Meeting Room where performances take place) and Level B or basement (where restrooms are located).

Brendan Drake is gender-queer interdisciplinary artist and educator based in Brooklyn. Their work uses disparate movement forms, erotic imagery, text, and sound manipulation to interrogate issues surrounding gender, vanity, and queer power dynamics.

Kar’mel Antonyo Wade Small

Kar’mel Antonyo Wade Small is a native South Bronx, New York artist with a BFA in Dance Performance and Composition from SUNY Purchase. Kar’mel has toured and worked with A.I.M. by Kyle Abraham, Kizuna Dance, and is currently with Battery Dance. He has performed works by Kevin Wynn, Damani Pompey, Kayla Farrish, Roderick George, Martha Graham, Sidra Bell, Dorchel Haqq, Merce Cunningham, Keerati Jinakunwiphat, Jerome Robbins, Eleo Pomare, Faizah Grootens, and many more notable choreographers and collaborators. Kar’mel creates work that includes themes of memory, surrealism, Afro-Puerto Rican / Nuyorican rhythms and culture.

Emilio Wettlaufer

Emilio Wettlaufer is a Guatemalan-born dance artist currently based in New York City. He develops his own independent works that draw influence from dramaturgy, creative writing, and task-based movement. His work has been performed at the Schwere Reiter Theater in Munich, Abrons Arts Center, and most recently, with Movement Research at the Judson Church.

Molly M. Whawell

Molly M. Whawell (she/they) is an interdisciplinary artist based in Glasgow, Scotland, working across installation, sculpture, performance and moving image. Through their work they are interested in the spatial systems and conceptual infrastructures at work behind everyday life - particularly moments at which bodies intersect or are in friction with these. Molly’s current research is investigating the global cut-flower trade.
