Antonio Ramos
ANTONIO RAMOS is a dancer, choreographer, and certified body work practitioner who was born and raised in Puerto Rico where he trained in jazz, salsa, and African dance. His choreography has been produced at The Kitchen (Work and Process), New York Live Arts, SUNY Purchase, Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance (BAAD!), P.S. 122, Taller Pregones, Danspace Project, Princeton University, Movement Research at the Judson Church, BAX / Brooklyn Arts Exchange, Williamsburg Art Nexus, Fringe Festival 2000 at Theatre La Chappelle (Montreal, Canada), The Painted Bride (Philadelphia, PA), Cornell University, CPR/Center For Performance Research (Brooklyn), and most recently at Dixon Place and The Chocolate Factory Theater. He is the artistic director and choreographer for Antonio Ramos and the Gang Bangers. His work focuses on broader emotional and social themes as they manifest through his identity and histories as a queer artist, an HIV+ artist, and a Puerto Rican artist who was born on the island. He takes this subject matter, full of darkness and difficulty, and creates joyous, celebratory choreography that harnesses the beauty in life while confronting the audience with challenging themes such as sexuality, the body, and histories of colonization. Ramos holds a B.F.A. in Dance from SUNY Purchase.
