A free, high visibility low-tech forum for experimentation, emerging ideas, and works-in-progress held in the Fall and Spring seasons. Artists are selected by a rotating committee of peer artists, and join Movement Research Artists-In-Residence and international guests each season in performing at the historic Judson Memorial Church.

Accessibility Notes

The accessible entrance is located at 243 Thompson St. and the elevator at Judson Memorial Church is currently working. Personnel from the Judson Memorial Church will be at the entrance. The elevator connects Level 1 (street access) to Level 3 (Meeting Room where performances take place) and Level B or basement (where restrooms are located).

Alex Romania

Alex Romania is a multidisciplinary artist who has held residencies with Movement Research, MacDowell, and Djerassi. Upcoming projects include ‘Face Eaters’, premiering at the Chocolate Factory Theater (CF) May 2024 with WiP showings at CPR and the Performance Mix Festival this June, feature film ‘RECKONING’ created with memoirist Stacy Lynn Smith, experimental documentary 'Patch the Sky with Five Colored Stones' conceived by choreographer Daria Faïn, a collaborative short film with Daniela Fabrizi and the Re Hecho community in the LES, and a special ten year project titled ‘The Philosophy of Whatever’ featuring their father Arthur Romania.

Glenn Potter-Takata (Bronx, NY) is a Japanese-American media designer and artist working in performance. His practice is somatic-based, utilizing score-based movement, improvisation, video, and appropriated media to create performances around the body as a historical site in post-Internment America.

Stacy Lynn Smith is a neurodivergent, mixed race/Black performance artist, choreographer, director and Green Circle Keeper at Hidden Water (by and for those affected by CSA), whose practice synthesizes various lineages of improvisational forms, somatics, experimental theater and butoh.
