Please note: Amelia Heintzelman will sub on Dec 30.

Come cultivate an adaptable, responsive body while honing your ability to be present and listen with care. This practice offers an opportunity to create deeper awareness and understanding of the systems and structures that make up our bodies. We will build support for our joints (our sites of internal connection) and grow our ability to expand, pivot, turn, ground, locomote, respond, and perceive. The class will culminate in 10-15 minutes of dance improvisation to digest the class material and themes.

Sofia’s methodology draws inspiration from Joseph Pilates’ classical teachings, rehabilitative and embodied kinesiology practices, queer theory, current exercise and neuro science, consent, and modern/postmodern/contemporary dance.

What to expect:
Class will consist of a one-hour Mat Pilates class into a short dance improvisation practice.

It is suggested that folks come to this practice with some prior Pilates experiences (a couple of classes will do) or other knowledge of alternative movement, exercise, or somatic forms. Consent will always be asked before offering hands-on guidance.
