In Partnership with YallaPunk
Leila Mire’s lecture, Unpacking Zionism in Modern Dance, will discuss the role Zionism has historically played in US contemporary dance and examine how it continues to shape what is seen on concert stages today.
Nicole Bindler’s lecture, Embodying Palestine Solidarity, addresses the history of the formation of Palestinian and Israeli folk dance forms as representations of national identity, and she covers the work of contemporary choreographers from the region. She discusses the conditions under which these contemporary artists live and make their work, and how Brand Israel informs their funding, touring structures, and even the content of their dances.
