Klein Technique™ works at the level of the bone, underneath the layers of tissues, the deepest and densest structure in the body. Here, the body and its movement is addressed through clarity, imagery, and theory. Working at this level allows us to drop in under the layers of muscles, and focus on the deep connections of postural support and movement. Freeing the legs and spine, connecting the pelvis to the legs, connecting the upper body to the lower, and the skull to the feet.

In this year’s MELT workshop, my intention is to work from large to small, from movement to stillness and quiet. Theory is always interwoven with practice. We hang over, an essential component of this work, and here we discover our weight and gravity, learning to feel and use the floor for locomotion and support. Our legs and pelvis are important in this, and we will break down, move, touch, partner, and explore space and the ground. Essential are the four deep muscle groups connecting the pelvis to the legs. From there, we address the spine, feet, head, and shoulder girdle to enable us, as movers, as humans, to be who we are. We learn to “see” and embody ourselves while in motion. As a facilitator and teacher, the time in the workshop, for me, is to use the group dynamics, a sense of curiosity and community, to progress us all on a non-linear journey. Underlying this work are strong connections to the work of Irmgard Bartenieff, which I learned from Susan Klein. Specific movements will be taught, questions will be addressed. I am immensely passionate about this work. I love it, use it daily, dance it.

What to expect:
Together, we begin slowly with movement or anatomical illustrations and drawings. A strong component in the workshop is the use of imagery, the principles of gravity, alignment, and movement. Every day is different and from that perspective we work.
