This workshop invites the community to engage in a collective inquiry on ‘denial’ as an obstruction to listening within and without. Daria uses individual and collective modalities to weave physical, emotional, energetic, and intellectual experiences through energy work based on the Chinese Five Element Theory and contemplative practices applied to the immediacy of performance as a collective to unleash the restraining and divisive forces of ‘denial.’
These four sessions are part of Daria Faïn’s larger project, UPON HUMANS (UH). This workshop includes the opportunity to participate in a public sharing of the process on June 16, 2025 as part of Movement Research at Judson Church series.
UH is a Hydra process reflecting on the human mechanism of denial. Through performance, writing, historical inquiries, and contemplative practices, the project uses the Greek mythical character Kassandra as an iconic lens to view the risks involved when the wise and fierce Divine Feminine within us is refuted and how it might be activated. By entering Kassandra’s mind, we will create a contemporary tale, opening our eyes to the denial of warnings, danger, and destruction of the Earth and, therefore, ourselves.
SEED BOMBS is an ongoing public events series in memory of New York City’s Guerrilla Gardens. The series’s muse is Kassandra, and it translates her message site-specifically and eco-responsively for this moment.
Other public events will be scheduled independently as performance ensembles with spontaneous elements that literally “seed” the ground and figuratively “seed” a collective energy.
What to Expect:
The sessions are deep inquiries that bring intimate experience into collective awareness. They will involve qigong training to awaken energy centers, contemplative practices to let our unconscious arise, and an investigation of history from a personal and collective experience concerning the denial of the wise and fierce feminine force. The sessions are open to all genders. I am interested in the experience of immediacy in collective inquiry into spontaneous performance.
PLEASE NOTE:
Workshop sessions on March 17, April 21, and May 19 will take place at 122 Cultural Center.
The workshop session on June 16 will take place at Judson Church. If you plan to participate in the public sharing of the process, please plan to be available all day for the workshop session, tech rehearsal, and public process sharing.
