In this workshop we will be exploring the role of the nervous system in learning and sustaining physical and emotional wellbeing. We will study a series of Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement Lessons (CM) that focus on functional and developmental movement, as well as organizations of basic actions such as; standing, sitting and walking; fundamental organizational patterns that are present in dancing and in other movement aspects of our lives.
The work in class will focus on small movements and how they interconnect (in various ways) and re-emerge as vital participants of larger movement constellations.
The Feldenkrais Method® facilitates the conditions for recognizing our more familiar, preferred, habitual ways of moving and thinking (embedded already in simple movements) so that we can experience what we do in a novel learning context. The work does not aim to exclude but revises habits by re-contextualizing them in simple and gentle movement explorations. Through these explorations other possible movement-thinking-feeling patterns emerge and help our ability to act with a larger sense of wellbeing. The method emphasizes awareness, distribution of effort/action through the whole self, while expanding self-perception, neurological balance and ease.
What to expect:
You will need a mat and/or blanket and comfortable clothes that facilitate sliding (dress warm!)
Most of the work will be done lying down on the floor, sitting and/or standing.
