Programs and Events Internship [Hybrid]
[Spring/Summer 2024]
Open to All. Degree-Seeking Candidates Preferred:
This internship position is a 6 month commitment for the Spring/Summer 2024 season (March – August 2024); the average weekly commitment is between 8-12 hours per week, though hours may vary according to credit requirements and programming needs. The schedule will be determined in collaboration with MR staff. Interviews will begin in mid-December 2023. Training will begin in late February 2024, for a March 2024 start date.
There are 3-5 Programs & Events internship positions available for the Spring/Summer seasons.
The Programs & Events Interns work closely with the Programs and Events Manager and Associates to organize and implement Movement Research’s artist programs and events. The primary duty is to assist in the management and implementation of Movement Research classes and workshops, including the MELT workshop series, as an onsite liaison between faculty, artists, students, and MR staff. MR internships follow a work-study format, in that interns are encouraged to participate in the classes, workshops, and/or events they work, while also gaining access to nearly all Movement Research classes for free. This position works in-person, with limited opportunity for remote work.
Programs & Events Interns can expect a fairly consistent schedule in coordination with Movement Research’s ongoing class schedule. When applying, please share with us your interest in MR classes and faculty, as well as your anticipated weekly schedule for the Spring/Summer 2024. The Programs & Events Internship also has the opportunity to support events such as GPS Chats, Studies Projects, and the Movement Research at the Judson Church performance series in a front of house capacity.
Candidates should have experience with Zoom, Google Docs and/or Microsoft Excel and Word, as well as strong organizational skills, punctuality, and attention to detail. As this is a public-facing role, excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential. Knowledge of Filemaker Pro or experience with databases is not required but helpful.
Outreach & Engagement Mentee [Hybrid]
This hybrid internship position is a 6-month commitment for the Winter/Spring 2024 season; the minimum weekly commitment is between 10-15 hours per week. Interviews and training will take place in late January 2024. The start date is late January 2024. The Outreach & Engagement Intern works with the Media and Communications team to maintain Movement Research’s presence and activity on social media platforms and keep detailed accuracy/inventory of digital media.
Tasks include:
- creating SM content for diverse communication platforms,
- drafting copy for weekly and daily media posts,
- tracking statistics/audience engagement,
- corresponding with artists to retrieve photos/video, and organizing media files.
- Engage with community on social media by viewing stories, responding to DMs, and addressing comments if necessary,
The ideal candidate is:
- interested in storytelling, communications, digital media & technology, dance, and performing arts administration.
- willing to attend and document MR classes and events following a flexible schedule.
- curious about marketing & branding strategies, visual literacy, digital archives, and social/community engagement.
- uses Social Media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and/or reads blogs and digital content.
- a good and concise writer.
- This position will be a combination of in-person and remote work.
Operations Internship [In-person]
This is an on-site position that will work 10-15 hours per week. Tentative start date in late January with an end date in May (opportunity to extend if desired). The Operations Intern reports directly to the Operations Associate. Candidates should have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent email etiquette. Experience with Microsoft Suite, Google Drive and Mac Mail are a plus but not required.
The Operations Intern works closely with the Operations Department on matters related to the day-to-day operations of Movement Research, including:
- studio maintenance,
- rehearsal bookings,
- office administration,
- and email/mail management.
Performance Journal Archives and Subscriptions Internship [In-person]
This is an on-site position that will work 10 hours per week. Tentative start date in late January with an end date in May (opportunity to extend if desired). Ideal candidates should have strong attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines, and excellent organizational and communication skills. Experience with Google suite and Microsoft excel is a plus. This performance Journal Archives and Subscriptions intern works closely with the Operations department to assist MRPJ mailing and distribution. Responsibilities include:
- tracking journal subscriptions,
- recording PJ Inventory and permanent archives,
- assisting with PJ and Merchandise mailing,
- and executing PJ distribution throughout NYC performance venues and art spaces.
