This workshop challenges both creators and viewers to reflect on how bodies are perceived in space and time, creating artworks that examine and explore their own embodied presence in life and artistic practice.
The aim of this workshop is to investigate issues of identity, social relationships, and agency through a shared creative process. How does the body become our homeland? What does it mean to be human? How do our bodies serve as vessels and messengers of the multiple realities in which we are immersed?
Participants will investigate two- and three-dimensional compositional strategies, exploring visual and spatial relationships through the development of original artistic works.
Our point of departure will be the Body Mapping technique, through which participants use movement, text, and drawing to share the stories of their bodies and lived experiences.
Body mapping is the process of visually representing aspects of people’s lives, their bodies, and the worlds they inhabit. Body maps help us make connections between emotions, experiences, and life circumstances, while giving voice and visibility to individual and collective identities.
Body maps can be understood as identity portraits—visual narratives that reveal who we are as individuals and as members of a larger community. Through this process, participants will explore the tangible and intangible dimensions of the self, creating meaningful connections between personal experience, artistic expression, and collective memory.
What to expect:
Open to dancers, movers, performers, visual artists, and anyone seeking to explore and connect their inner and outer worlds through movement, drawing, and creative expression. Please wear comfortable clothing suitable for movement and drawing activities.
