Wanjiru Kamuyu is a dancer and New York Bessies Award-winning choreographer born in Nairobi, Kenya, holding an MFA from Temple University. Based in Paris since 2007, she built her career in New York with Urban Bush Women and Molissa Fenley and Company, later working with Robyn Orlin, Anne Collod, Stefani Batten Bland, Bartabas, Dean Moss, Okwui Okpokwasili amongst others. She appeared in the original Paris production of Julie Taymor’s The Lion King and has worked with theatre directors Jérôme Savary, Hassan Kassi Kouyate, Jean-Francois Auguste, choreographer and director Bill T. Jones (Broadway show FELA!), choreographer Bintou Dembele, film director Christian Faure and visual artist Jean-Paul Goude.

Since 2017, Kamuyu has created four major works, toured across the USA, Europe, Africa, and Asia. In 2020, she produced her first dance film, La visite, commissioned by the Palais de la Porte Dorée in partnership with Théâtre de la Ville-Paris.

She has developed humanitarian projects with New World Theatre (US) and Euroculture (France), and has been commissioned by universities and dance companies across the USA. She teaches master classes and workshops across four continents.

Kamuyu’s company, WKcollective, is an associate company with agency camin aktion (Montpellier). She has been associate artist at the CCN Nantes and L’Onde Théâtre (France) as well a recent Live Feed Arts with New York Live Arts and ASAP artist with Sweat Variant (Brooklyn).  Her work supported by The Villa Albertine (France/US) in residency and touring the US.
