Wally Cardona

Wally Cardona began his studies in Klein Technique™ with Susan Klein and Barbara Mahler in 1989, immediately after graduating from The Juilliard School. For several several years, he created works that demanded highly controlled conditions in order to be made. In 2009, he began a process of undoing, initiating intimate collaborations where practice could mutate in proximity to others.  The most recent of these was THE SET UP: ISLAND GHOST SLEEP PRINCESS TIME STORY SHOW, made with choreographer Jennifer Lacey, and presented at the 2017 River to River Festival. The twelve-hour program, presented over two weekends, was the culmination of a five-year project spanning multiple continents and cultures, growing from periods of study with seven artists immersed in a particular tradition: Nyoman Catra (Balinese Topeng), Proeung Chhieng (Cambodian), Junko Fisher (Okinawan), Saya Lei (Mandalay-style Burmese), Jean-Christophe Paré (French baroque), Kapila Venu (Indian Kutiyattam), and Heni Winahyuningsih (Javanese refined).
