Punto de Inflexión (MEX-USA)
.De Inflexión is a contemporary interdisciplinary performance company committed to the pursuit of generating meaning in each step, carrying out creative processes with unexpected results, and creating new cooperative ties across geographic, artistic, cultural, and societal boundaries. The company was co-founded in 2019 in Mexico City by Stephanie García and visual artist Peter Hay, who are the current co-directors, and creatives.
Our productions have been presented in events, festivals, and venues like El Milagro Theater and Esperanza Iris, Mexico City‘s Theater, CDMX; Oaxaca International Dance Festival (MIDO), the National Dance Meeting 2019, Edo. Mex; the International Street Dance Festival (FIDANZCA), Guanajuato; the XXXI Danza Nueva International Festival of Lima, Peru; The Odyssey Dance Festival and MASHUP International Women’s Day, Los Angeles; Currents New Media Festival, Santa Fe; at Yale University, the International Performance Art Festival 2023, loveDANCEmore Sunday Series, and The Art of Belonging Series at the Museum of Art at Lakewood, Utah; and our upcoming participation at the Judson Church series by Movement Research in New York City this May. Our dance films have been screened in festivals in Cyprus, Ireland, Peru, the USA, and Spain.
.De Inflexión’s productions have been supported by IBERESCENA (an Ibero-American Arts Fund), the Prince Claus Fund, programs by the Support System for Cultural Creation and Projects of the Ministry of Culture of Mexico, the Salt Lake City Arts Council, and the Foundation for Contemporary Arts in NYC.
Performers:
Josie Kolbeck (they/she/he) was born in Sioux Falls, SD where they trained in dance and competitive gymnastics. At age 15, they moved to North Carolina where they continued their dance training at their high school and a local studio in Raleigh. Their dance training mostly consists of contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, ballet, and modern. Eventually, they began teaching and choreographing at their school, local studio, and Carolina Ballet. To further their education through dance, they attended the University of Utah and graduated with a BFA in Modern Dance in 2023. In school, they worked with artists, Charles O. Anderson, Ephrat Asherie, Laja Field, Stephanie García, Ground Grooves, Irishia Romaine, Tyler Schnese, and more. Post graduating, they continued performing in various projects around Salt Lake City. Majority of the work they have done and continue to do is with Stephanie García and Peter Haye’s US/MEX dance company, .De Inflexión. They have performed works with the company in Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, and New York City, where Josie currently resides.
Stephanie García is a multi-awarded Mexican artist, producer, arts administrator, and independent curator working in the USA and Mexico. Dance, video, choreography, film, and performance art are the mediums García intervenes in the audiences’ realities that witness her work. She is co-founder and co-director of Punto de Inflexión Dance Company and PROArtes México. She has worked with important Mexican and international choreographers, and performed in relevant dance festivals and venues in Mexico, and 11 countries in America, Europe, and Africa. She has created more than 30 original interdisciplinary pieces presented in the USA, Mexico, Cyprus, Ireland, Peru, Panama, Spain, and Cuba. Her work has received grants and funds from Mexican, USA, Spain, Dutch, and Canadian institutions. García continues her practice in the art landscapes between Mexico and the USA.
