Sofia Engelman is a Brooklyn-based dance artist and movement facilitator. She holds a BA with highest honors in Dance from Smith College and has studied Pilates through the Kane School, East River Pilates, Ellie Herman, The Neuro Studio, and more. Sofia has presented collaborative performance works with life & creative partner Em Papineau at spaces including, most notably, FRESH Festival, The Kennedy Center, Mana Contemporary, EstroGenius Festival, Judson Church, School for Contemporary Dance & Thought, and CPR. Sofia’s performance credits include works by Kathleen Hermesdorf, Tyler Rai, Jennifer Polins, Alice Gosti, David Appel. and Michael Figueroa. As a Pilates Practitioner, Sofia is the creator of Queer Body Pilates, through which she hosts classes, continuing education workshops, and private sessions centering queer and trans folks. Sofia was a co-Founder of freeskewl (2020-2022), a platform for dance, discussion, education, and reparations, and is a former Editor at Contact Quarterly.
