Rachel Keane (RK) is a Brooklyn based dancer, photographer, and Jack of Many Trades. RK is a seasoned dance improviser who oftentimes doesn’t really understand why anyone would do anything other than improvise, if we’re being honest (but they can if you need them to). As an artist, RK seeks opportunities to collaborate with consent and strive toward justice and equity in the field. Since beginning as the student photographer for SUNY Brockport’s Dance Department, RK has spent the past decade honing their craft. Rachel strives to blend and, when possible, strike the middle ground between photojournalism, somatic movement, and self and communal care in their work. It is their sincere hope that each and every person who finds themself behind their lens feels safe and confident. RK believes this is what leads to a truly honest final image. This research, practice, and way of life has led RK to begin to practice and teach what they lovingly refer to as “Embodied Photography”. Currently, they are the appointed photographer for Movement Research and Danspace Project in addition to contract work with The Chocolate Factory, BAM, CPR, and JACK. These opportunities have allowed Rachel to work with hundreds of artists leading to publications in Dance Enthusiast, fjord, and The New York Times. As their business, rk-co image continues to establish a recognized name in the industry, RK is excited to bring their unique style of photojournalism to artists, families, and help teach others how to be embodied photographers!
