Maira Duarte is a Mexican artist, educator, and organizer based in New York City. She directs Dance to the People/Danza para la Gente (DTTP), a collective dedicated to using art as a form of activism and social change, operating in New York and Mexico. DTTP has received support from the Action Lab, CUNY Dance Initiative, Queens Council on the Arts, and the Foundation for Contemporary Arts. DTTP’s work has been presented in NYC at Brooklyn Arts Exchange, Grace Exhibition Space, Abrons Arts Center, Movement Research Judson Church, Mayday Space, NoOsphere Arts, and Governors Island; in NJ at Siren Arts in Asbury Park; and in Mexico at the University of Guanajuato, Festival Performática in Cholula, Puebla, Huerto Verde Roma in Mexico City, and Centro Comunitario Arrecifes in Tulum, Q.R.. Maira is a 2022 EmergeNYC alumna, and has been the Artist in Residence at Grace Exhibition Space since 2023. She also co-manages The Woods, a low-cost rehearsal and performance space in Ridgewood, Queens.
