Luis A. Lara Malvacías is a Venezuelan choreographer, performer, educator, and interdisciplinary artist whose work combines dance, performance, installation, visual design, and new media. He has performed in works by Jeremy Nelson, David Zambrano, Mark Tompkins, Yoshiko Chuma, and John Jasperse, and has presented his own work internationally in theaters, galleries, universities, and alternative performance spaces. Lara Malvacías has been an Artist-in-Residence with Movement Research, Dance New Amsterdam, Le Pacifique (France), LaborGras, and Lake Studios (Berlin). Through the generous support of Sasha Waltz & Guests, he and longtime collaborator Jeremy Nelson have developed several works from their ongoing duet series, From A to Z, a project exploring time, memory, aging, and performance. He received a 2006 New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) Fellowship in Choreography and has received support from organizations including the MAP Fund/Rockefeller Foundation and the Jerome Foundation. A former tenured professor at the University of California, Riverside, he currently teaches as an adjunct professor New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. He holds an MFA in New Media and has taught, created, and presented work throughout Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
