JJ Omelagah (they/them) is a transgender vocal artist whose performance roots began in their church where they have been a featured soloist for many years. JJ has had the honor to sing for The National Day of Forgiveness, San Francisco Women Against Rape, SF Pride, in the National Queer Arts Festival 2017 as a guest artist with The Singing Bois, and in the National Queer Arts Festival 2018 as a guest artist in the performance “Enough” with India Harville. JJ is a trained CircleSing facilitator in the style of Bobby McFerrin and loves to help everyone connect with the power of their voice. JJ’s vocal style has been described as soulful, mellow, and smooth and their mission as a vocal artist is to build community, uplift, and experience personal and collective healing through the power of sound.
In addition, JJ is a trained Reiki practitioner, Access Doula, Ifa initiate, Disability Justice and LGBTQIA+ activist. JJ is an empathic healer who integrates movement, sound, altar building, and intuition to create ritual spaces for collective healing. JJ believes everyone deserves access to healing and prioritizes uplifting others through volunteering their services for queer/trans folks, underhoused/unhoused communities and people with disabilities. Currently, JJ also serves as the Managing Director and Access Doula at Embraced Body, a Disability Justice and accessibility organization based in Phoenix, Arizona.
When they aren’t singing or working, JJ enjoys spending quality time with their family, traveling, swimming, and chilling out in nature.
