Ian Habib (they/them) is a brazilian performer, dancer and dance researcher based in New York City. Visiting Scholar at City University of New York and currently developing a PhD research in Performing Studies. Professor in the Undergraduate Program of Performing Arts (Federal University of Bahia/UFBA). Collaborating Professor at the Graduate Program in Theater and Education (Instituto Federal do Norte de Minas Gerais/IFNMG). Founder and director of the Transgender Museum of History and Art of Brazil (www.mutha.com.br). Author of the books Corpos Transformacionais (Ed. Hucitec), Performance e Teatro (Ed. SEAD/UFBA) and TRANSESPÉCIE/TRANSJARDINAGEM (Ed. O sexo da palavra). Winner of 8 Dance and Archives Awards in Brazil. Habib has a Bachelors in Perorming Arts (UFMG/UFRGS) and a Master’s in Dance (CAPES/UFBA). Habib is completing an additional undergraduate degree in Performing Arts Pedagogy (EAD/UFBA). Habib researches Butoh dance, performance and gender, with an emphasis on the poetics and politics of physical transformations and physical states changes, through studies on healing processes, memory, archive, performativity, rituality and creation of beings and worlds.
