Meet Fredrik Quiñones, a dancer and choreographer whose work is deeply rooted in personal expression through movement. Quiñones artistic journey transcends conventional boundaries, exploring “the unisex state of mind” in his choreographic practices.

Quiñones has a bachelor degree from Codarts Rotterdam Dance Academy and diploma from education in House dance at Åsa College and the Ballet Academy in Stockholm. With a diverse dance background with influences based on Voguing, House, Whacking, Contemporary and Afro-Cuban styles, Quiñones explores themes as “Inner healing,” “My last dance on the moon,” and “Tragedy,” delve into the depths of human experience. From achieving spiritual tranquility to channeling the pulsating energy of 70s, 80s, and 90s club culture, and even capturing the raw emotions on the brink of life’s end, Quiñones unearths the essence of movement.

A Unisex state of mind and movement language has shaped and characterized Quiñones artistic practices throughout the years. The idea/ practice is rooted in Quiñones upbringing. Raised in a suburb of Stockholm by a christian family with macho culture values, in a judgemental environment that is lacking representation of LGBTQ+ community and people of color. A unisex state of mind allows him to dive into himself, into a universe of both feminine and masculine energy, spiritually, emotionally and embodied. Within this universe he creates different worlds, examples of them are “Inner healing”, “My last dance on the moon” and “Tragedy”. These worlds connect him to different movement analysis and practices that later become choreography.

Throughout the years Quiñones has been working as dancer, choreographer and actor. From performing across the world, premiering and touring his own production “Dark Water” or as a choreographer, movement director and lead-actor in the Netflix film “Dancing Queens”.
Fredrik is currently choreographing a solo piece called “A message to my childhood” with premiere December 2024 at Stadsteatern Skärholmen in Sweden. A work in progress will be performed att Judson Church on November 6th, as part of a residency at Movement Research in New York. Later on November 18th Quiñones will premiere a new piece choreographed for Company E in Washington DC.

Quiñones is a storyteller that invites us to his boundless world of movement and self-expression. His journey redefines the dance landscape, inviting us all to journey with him into the limitless expanse of artistic exploration.
