Ewan McLaren (he, him, his) is a dramaturg, producer, writer and director. Since 1992 he has participated in advancing the Czech independent arts scene in various ways. For eleven years he worked freelance as stage director for a variety of Prague theatres. He apprenticed as producer with Daniel MacIvor’s dada kamera company in Toronto and One Yellow Rabbit Performance Theatre in his hometown Calgary, for whom he also produced the High Performance Rodeo Festival of innovative performance from 1999-2001 and started to focus on dance. As an independent producer in Prague he worked with the Prague Quadrennial, Tanec Praha, and Motus, producers of the Alfred ve dvoře Theatre. Ewan received the …příští vlna/next wave… Festival Award for Producing Activity of the Year for completing the five-year Energy Pathways series (2009-2013), a site-specific performance project on the history of Central European energy resources, which he co-created with Miroslav Bambušek. Ewan McLaren and Miroslav Bambušek also received the Czech Theatre News Award for co-directing the performance Miners’ Day (Zdař Bůh!) at the Michael Mine in Ostrava (2009). During his tenure as artistic director of Alfred ve dvoře Theatre (2011-2018), Ewan was one of the curators and main organisers of the Identity.Move! European research platform for contemporary dance and performance (2013-2015), and co-founded the Bazaar Festival of Central and East European Contemporary Performance (2015). Since 2016 he has been its artistic director. He is co-founder and co-curator of the Nature of Us project on strategies for Central European dance about the natural world.
