Born in Queens, New York, and raised between Brooklyn and Colombia, Coco Villa discovered a passion for dance at an early age, exploring movement through gymnastics, swimming, traditional cumbia, and competitive salsa. They studied Photography and Holistic Health at Lesley College of Art and Design (2011-2015), then continued studies in dance and somatic movement at Tanzfabrik Berlin, Tanztheater Wuppertal, Movement Research, American Dance Therapy Association, and Casa Cultural Cartagena. Villa has participated in residencies with Pocoapoco (2025), Marigny Opera House (2024), Performance Space New York (2023), KinoSaito (2022), Atlantic Center for the Arts (2022), Township10 (2021), and Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias (2019). Villa has performed works by Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons, Joan Jonas, Elliot Reed, Arone Dyer, Dorian Electra, Corneliuos Tullock, Merik Goma, and performed at MOMA (2024), Performance Space New York (2024), Marigny Opera House (2024), The Brooklyn Museum (2023), and Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias (2019). While they primarily work as a dancer, educator, and choreographer, Villa leads an interdisciplinary practice investigating relations between body, object, and landscape.
