Subsidized Rehearsal Space

The Movement Research Subsidized Rehearsal Space Program provides subsidized rehearsal space to artists involved in dance or movement-related processes at a rate as low as $10 per hour.

Building/Studio Access information will be provided via email from studio@movementresearch.org the week prior to your first booking.

Find information and studio request guidelines in our Subsidized Rehearsal Space page.

Cancellation / Refund Policy: Payments are not refundable within 7 days of the rehearsal space booking. Cancellations can only be made by emailing studio@movementresearch.org, with the specific rehearsal date(s) and times that are being canceled.

Movement Research’s Subsidized Rehearsal Space Program is supported by Dance/NYC’s New York City Dance Rehearsal Space Subsidy Program, made possible by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation; by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature, and the Mertz Gilmore Foundation.

Please Note: Movement Research is currently only offering the Subsidized Rehearsal Space Program to the public. Under this program, artists may book subsidized studio space for $10/hr for artist rehearsals only.

Prior to the pandemic, Movement Research had a separate rate for other studio usages (including classes, workshops, auditions, photo-shoots and filming). We look forward to being able to offer our spaces for these events again, but we cannot accommodate these additional studio uses at this time.

Studio Usage Guidelines

  • Live music can only be used with approval from MR Staff.
  • Please do not dispose of any garbage, especially food, anywhere in the studios. Please dispose of all garbage in the receptacles in the main lobby.
  • Please empty liquids from your trash items before you throw them in the trash or recycling.
  • Please don’t discard recyclables (plastic, paper, metal) into the regular trash receptacle.
  • Please do not lean or stand on the radiators. They are delicate and not weight-bearing. The covers will fall off if excess pressure is placed on them.
  • For your (and your collaborators) safety, we recommend not standing or dancing on the window sills.
  • Internet: There is Wifi in the studios; the network and password are posted on the wall in the studios. If the Wifi or the internet is not working, please let us know.
