The Artists of Color Council (AoCC) at Movement Research hosts our first Town Hall Meeting! A community gathering and sharing including AoCC Core members, Council members, and extended community. An opportunity to learn about AoCC programs, ongoing research from community members, and to be in solidarity with artists of color engaged in creative practice around the city!

The Artists of Color Council is a cohort of artists of color addressing cultural diversity, equity, and sustainable structural integration in MR’s operations, programming, outreach, and throughout its extended communities. The council aspires to increase visibility, opportunities, and engagement with resources for artists of color within the field.

Meeting Itenerary

6:00 PM – 6:15 PM

Sound Bath with AoCC Core member, Megan Curet

This offering invites participants into deep listening—through breath, vibration, and resonance—as a collective practice of arrival. As a space opener, the sound bath will gently clear, connect, and cultivate presence, creating a shared foundation for reflection, dialogue, and imagination.

6:15 PM – 7:15 PM

“Embodied and Logistical Tactics for Community Care” With Immigration Attorney, Nadia Qurashi and artist, Yara Travieso

So many of us are looking for ways to support our immigrant communities but feel overwhelmed as to where to begin. Nadia & Yara will guide participants into both embodied and logistical resources that help us understand how to best be of service for ourselves and each other. Through embodied care and legal organizing tactics that protect us against unlawful ICE raids, participants will leave the workshop with more clarity and resources to support their efforts. Feel free to bring any legal questions or other concerns you feel comfortable sharing with the group, or any questions about ICE encounters.

7:15 PM – 7:30 PM

Community Break

7:30 PM – 7:40 PM

Art Practice as Wellness with AoCC Core member, Shawn Rawls

An interactive exercise focused on narrative and identity. The session invites participants to reflect on stories they carry about themselves—how those narratives shape their sense of agency, worth, and personal sovereignty. The format would include a brief framing, guided journaling prompts, and open group discussion. Participants will leave with one written reframe of a limiting identity narrative they’ve been carrying.

7:45 PM – 9:00 PM

AoCC Meeting!

Community discussion on current events, struggles, sucesses, and upcoming AoCC Programming.
