What is a dance dramaturg? How do they work? What relationship do they have to choreography and the choreographer? This open discussion is an opportunity to explore the practice of dance dramaturgy and the shifting position of the dance dramaturg within contemporary performance practice. Far from definable, the practice of dance dramaturgy leads to the richly aesthetic and philosophical knot of trying to work alongside and in service to an artist who is not oneself.

Led by dance dramaturgs André Lepecki and Joshua Lubin-Levy, this event encourages participation—more like an open forum, or informal study group—and is for those with a variety of relationships to the theory and practice of dance dramaturgy.
