This lab is designed to equip our dance community to become more powerful political actors, harnessing our ability to imagine new futures while expanding the skill sets, strategies, and support systems we can use to rock the imperial status quo.
With guest speaker Samir Eskanda, a UK-based Palestinian artist, organizer, and human rights activist with a decade of experience providing guidance to cultural solidarity initiatives worldwide, we will dive into the specific strategies for advancing the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) in the dance world.
With representatives from the New York Live Arts Union, we will discuss dance workplace organizing and cultivating solidarity across departmental lines.
The second half of the lab will be a facilitated brainstorm or “action potluck”: participants are encouraged to bring their own ideas (at any stage of development) for actions and initiatives related to dance, Palestinian liberation, and aligned movements. Collectively, we will help each other find the tools, connections, and first moves to thrust these ideas into reality.
