Improvising While Black (IWB): Afropessimist Musings on Black Bodies in Revolt
This reading group will focus on short passages, from non-fiction, fiction and poetry that deal with themes of Black death and revolt. What is a black body in a continual state of revolt? How is refusal a marker of resistance? What is the creative potential of a body in revolt?
- Non fiction article: “Venus in Two Acts” by Saidiya Hartman (entire article)
- Poetry: Selected poems from There Are More Beautiful Things Than Beyoncé by Morgan Parker
- Fiction: Selected Passages from The Book of Night Women by Marlon James
Black, Indigenous & POC queer trans, gnc & non binary folks are encouraged to take a seat at the table & will be centered in these discussions.
