Citation and Appropriation can be generative tools in the creative process. They can also be exploitative procedures when they compromise the agency of the source or when they are culturally imperialistic. In this process lab we will share, contend with and generate methods of citation in and around performance. We will discuss artistic freedom and our ethical responsibility as culture makers. What are citational practices or understandings specific to dance? Participants are invited to bring movement, texts, video or music to workshop. We will cite, frame, create and share.

Requests for reasonable accommodation should be made by June 4 by contacting Greer Dworman at [email protected] or 212.598.0551 (voice only).

Sunday Process Labs are a series of three-hour, low-cost sessions on Sunday afternoons, providing an opportunity for a substantive peer exchange in a lab-type setting. Sessions are facilitated by movement-based artists who share their individual creative practices and process.
