Workshop Description:
This seminar’s point of departure is straightforward: the relatively recent production of works -- of dance, of critical theory, all minoritarian – that re-assess the relation between action and time, between movement and time. Thus, during our three sessions, we will meet and discuss three of those works in dance (a piece by Brazilian choreographers/dancers Davi Pontes and Wallace Ferreira; a piece by Brazilian choreographers Marcela Levi and Lucia Russo with the dancer Tamires Costa; and a piece by Berlin-based artists Pauline Boudry and Renate Lorenz with a collective of queer collaborators) while reading three works in critical theory (an essay by Denise Ferreira da Silva, an essay by Jacques Derrida, an essay by Soyica Diggs Colbert). We will see how those works (of dance, of critical theory) may be telling us something fundamental about the very nature of time by advancing a minoritarian (meta)physics of time. One that informs an altogether other way of organizing (collective) movement. Rest assured: will not be addressing the well-trodden relation between dance and “the ephemeral” but rather, explore the relation between some recent minoritarian dance as a practice for a new order of action, an opening of new dimension for existing where time is what is not. Our main task will be to attend collectively to those works and figure out -- slowly and carefully and together -- the premises of such dimension of movement where time is set aside, done with, so that another dance/existence may begin.
