Class Description:

This somatic class begins by focusing internally, locating specific and individual feelings of movement, and working to trust them, and be guided by them. We track how one’s feelings can move one’s individual body, and various potentialities for each of our bodies to connect to, and possibly be held, by the spaces around us. Encouraging the use of incremental amounts of force, we practice slowing down shifts of weight in order to distinguish them entirely, and make choices within them. Imagery-based exercises and stillness help to increase sensitivity to momentum, texture, and directionality, and to gain support from the surfaces around us, especially the air. The energetic effort promotes ease and comfort from open space, and to settle even when ungrounded.

[ID: Molly Lieber is standing in the middle of St. Marks Church, teaching and holding her baby. Molly is a white jewish woman with black hair and gray clothes, and her baby also has black hair. There are ten dancers taking class, spread out in the space of the church, lying down in many different positions. The photo is taken from too far away to capture details of the dancers faces, but all of their bodies are in positions of rest.]
