Workshop Description

As powerful carriers of cultural memory and physical sensation, our voices transmit and materialize our inner and outer worlds. Breath anchors us in diaphragmatic movement, supporting clarity in our spine and limbs. This workshop is for those who are excited to learn more about the possibilities of a moving-singing body, and for those who don’t yet know how to get started. Through self-touch or partner touch, we will build a map for exploration. We will regard each body as its own expert, making room for doubt and interrogation along the way. How can we amplify and tune our connection to space and each other through shared vibration?

This research has been influenced and nurtured by a large community of practitioners, artists and mentors, including but not limited to: Jonathan Hart Makwaia, Nancy Stark Smith, Daria Faïn, Jennifer Monson, Urban Bush Women, Emily Johnson, Peter Sciscioli, Odeya Nini, and Okwui Okpokwasili & Peter Born, among many others.
