  • This workshop is offered online virtually via Zoom.
  • Spaces in the TRY workshop are limited. The TRY team intention is to prioritize a BIPOC majority, which reflects the racial composition of the TRY teaching team (3 black/indigenous/AAPI: 2 white). The TRY team is asking white folks to identify themselves when registering so that we can meet these goals. This is part of TRY’s approach to decentering whiteness in both content and participation/empowerment.
  • Automated closed captioning will be available for all Movement Research MELT workshops and classes that take place via Zoom!

About this workshop:

Co-taught by the TRY Team: Ishmael Houston-Jones, Keith Hennessy, Snowflake Calvert (Yoeme, Mayan), jose e. abad, Kevin O’Connor.

The TRY team’s collaborative work circles around the crises and potentials of land, healing, movement, consent, ownership and solidarity. We seek a soft experience where land acknowledgement and fascia can be woven into a single conversation. Where bodies are energies and powers at the same time, always entangled within the ecologies from which they emerge. By learning about each other, we become more aware of ourselves and the many contexts, contagions, and beings that shape and are shaped by our time together. The workshop will attempt to generate a precarious and curious space between engagement and refuge, being present with queerness, the ongoing impact of COVID, and the importance of shared dance and inquiry. The workshop will be framed as summer work, as hanging out in playful and nonproductive spaces, engaging with heat, light, exteriors, long days.

We will move, write, listen, sense, talk, and play… alone, in virtual duets, and in group zooms.
