Contact Improvisation and Ensemble Dance Improvisation are forms that rely on refined physical communication. The missing ingredient in much of this dancing is a developed peripheral intelligence. Through expanding our ability to be attentional while moving as a multiplicity, we gain responsiveness, creative speed and physical accuracy within complex relations with others and the world around us. Moving as a network of relations invites our ability to be somatically plugged in to worlds within and beyond our own physical form. These are skills in which we articulate and clarify the tactility of our presence. Questions we will deal with: How do we prepare our physical form for tonal states that support peripheral intelligence? What is this network? Do we give up responsibility when we give way to being a larger form? Why not? What is physical synchronicity, communion? This workshop moves both fast and slow. Expect to be physically engaged with others while increasing your experiential potentials. This is a technical class that will influence your creative capacities. Basic Contact Improvisation skills are necessary.
