A man sits cross-legged on a rocky cliff, meditating with eyes closed and hands resting on his knees. He wears a turquoise T-shirt, gray pants, and sneakers. Behind him stretches a sweeping view of a winding river bordered by lush green hills, under a bright blue sky dotted with fluffy white clouds. The sunlight reflects off the water, and a boat can be seen traveling along the river. The scene conveys a sense of peace, balance, and connection with nature. Photo by Tony Bordonaro

Do-It-Yourself Shiatsu – Self-care through touch and awareness

In this class, Ori Flomin guides participants through a self-Shiatsu practice designed to release tension, restore energy, and support emotional and physical balance. Shiatsu is a Japanese form of bodywork based on the meridian system, which works with pressure points to promote the natural flow of energy in the body, thereby enhancing health and vitality. Drawing from over two decades of experience as a Shiatsu practitioner, Ori shares accessible techniques you can do yourself—no prior bodywork experience required. Each class explores principles from the Five Elements in nature – Earth, Metal, Water, Wood, and Fire to understand how their qualities manifest within us. Gentle stretches, and acupressure points will also be practiced to nurture the body–mind–spirit connection. Participants will leave with practical tools to integrate self-care into their daily lives.

What to expect:
In this self-Shiatsu class, you’ll explore gentle stretches, light movement, and simple techniques to release tension and restore energy through self-touch massage. Learn how to work with your body’s meridian system, discover the qualities of the Five Elements, and understand how energy flows to support balance and vitality. You’ll gain practical self-care tools you can use at home, feel more grounded and centered, and have time for reflection, questions, and discussion in a supportive space.
