This workshop considers ideas and experiences of simplicity, language, control, paradox, imperfection, uncertainty and the use of the eyes. Working with the proposition that we are designed for movement and balance, readiness, and presence, we can engage our awareness to learn to trust this design. Developing conscious awareness and kinesthetic listening, we can learn to un-do or un-learn patterns of interference, creating opportunity for understanding how we use (or misuse) ourselves, for improving our coordination and functioning, and for promoting self-reflection and profound self-knowledge. The Alexander Technique highlights relationship and responsiveness – to self, to space and, most delightfully, to others. A critical practice of moving, perceiving and responding to the world consciously and creatively rather than habitually.
What to expect:
Please expect to be touched. The Alexander Techinique teacher uses touch to express that which words cannot. At times you may be asked to touch another and be touched by others in partners – this is always optional.
Expect to listen to and speak with the group. We learn together.
Expect to play with the idea of paying attention to one’s self while attending to others and vice versa.
Expect to lie on the floor.
Expect subtlety.
