LAURA COE (Chickasaw) is a New York based dancer, choreographer and teacher whose work explores indigenous perspectives of relationality and collaboration. A recipient of the Martha Boschen Porter Fund, and the CREATE Council for the Arts Statewide Community Regrant, her work has been performed at 92StreetY, Jacob’s Pillow, Mass MoCA, the Smithsonian Hirschhorn Museum, The Tank NYC, and toured to the Netherlands. Groundwork is her ongoing research into the connection between her physical practices of floorwork and partnering and her Indigenous spoken and movement languages (Chikashshanompa/Stomp Dance) and the community building and reciprocity with land that those traditions encompass. She has developed this work as an Art OMI: Dance 2024 resident mentored by Christopher K. Morgan (Hawaiian), through community-based work with Liz Lerman, Matthew Cumbie, Double York Collective, and Catskill Mountain Foundation, and in collaboration with Emily Aslin, Peter Chang. Ellen Oliver, and Tina Lee-Moorer. She’s delighted to be joined in this performance and ongoing research by ANGEL DE PAZ (Peru). Laura studied with Angela Gladue, Sara Herrera, Springboard Danse, Kizuna Dance, David Dorfman Dance, Keith Hennessy/Ishmael Houston-Jones, BRKFST, KJ Holmes, RUBBERBAND, Compagnia Bellanda, LROD, Berkshire Pulse, and holds a BA from Harvard University. ÁNGEL DE PAZ is a Peruvian breakdancer with more than thirteen years of experience. He has performed with Yawuar Chicchi company, the British institute, Avant Garden, and in the opening ceremony of the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, and toured throughout Latin America participating in major international competitions such as Red Bull BC One, Criollo Style, Pura Calle, Breaking for Gold and World DanceSport Federation (WDSF). He is part of the fifth generation of breaking crew Original B-Boys Ayllu (1999), and was awarded the Trome scholarship to attend prestigious D1 school Vania Masías.’ In 2017 he created Killa Ayllu (Moon Family), a hip-hop collective through which he carried out social work, promoting culture, teaching classes, organizing competitions and donating to local communities in need. Now based in the United States, he continues to study floor techniques and collaborate with fellow artists.
