This AoCC Writing Rehearsal led by Laurel Toyofuku focuses on the press release as a practical tool for artists to clearly and effectively communicate their work to public audiences, press outlets, presenters, and funders. Participants will break down what makes a compelling press release, analyze real examples, and practice writing their own.
The workshop frames press releases as another tool for storytelling: a way to translate artistic intent, context, and impact into an engaging narrative.
What to expect:
This workshop is structured as a guided writing rehearsal, combining short discussions, concrete examples, and hands-on writing prompts. Participants will analyze real press releases, draft language for an existing or upcoming project, and engage in peer exchange. No prior experience with press releases is required. The workshop is designed for emerging artists across disciplines who want to strengthen their public-facing writing in a supportive, low-pressure environment.
