Iréne Hultman Monti (born in Sweden) is a New York–based choreographer, performer, and educator whose work moves fluidly between concert dance, opera, installation and research-led performance. She was a member of the Trisha Brown Dance Company, 1983–1988,  and later served as that company’s rehearsal director, 2006–2009.  She also led her own company, Iréne Hultman Dance (IHD), 1988-2001, that toured nationally and internationally. Her practice embraces collaboration with composers, video artists, dramaturgs and institutions, and moves easily between theatrical, gallery and civic settings. Hultman teaches at the intersection of practice and theory: she has held teaching and visiting positions at institutions including Yale (where she is currently in Theater, Dance and Performance Studies), The New School, Sarah Lawrence, Ohio State University, and other universities and art academies internationally. She is a recipient of multiple grants and awards including the Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship and the Foundation for Contemporary Arts. Her involvement in the global discourse of dance and performance continues to foster her interests in research and collaborations between artistic fields.
