This class will explore our mind-body connection through the lens of the Alexander Technique. The Alexander Technique is an awareness building practice that investigates habit and the process of change. In this class we will use tools like body-mapping, spatial orientation, anatomy, and “the pause”, among others, to gain a more accurate perception of how our bodies and minds work. We will explore topics like dynamic balance, choice, presence, breath, and tensegrity. The class will incorporate both everyday movements and dance movements with a focus on building awareness of the “how” so that your movement practice can be sustainable and recuperative.
What to expect:
This class will incorporate group discussion, movement through the space, and a floor lie down with verbal guidance. Light hands on assistance is available and consent will be practiced for any parts of the class that incorporate touch. All activities may be modified to suit individual needs.
