This workshop begins slowly, with a focus on arriving and self-preparation. Together, we work through an extended warm up that combines various elements of yoga, somatics, grooving and breath work, gradually releasing tension and encouraging openness in the body and mind. Through improvisation and set material, this class hopes to heighten the sensations of the weighted body to find length, clarity, and dynamics in movement.
My practice involves the exploration of movement as medium; honoring how we self-identify and speak through the body. Phrase work is then researched as a framework through which a relational awareness is activated and engaged. Seeing and being seen, feeling and making felt the unfolding experiences of movement.
This workshop will fall into several different pockets, embracing a range of indulgent, lush, and rigorous dance experiences.
What to expect:
This is a movement based workshop sprinkled with moments of reflection. Please prepare the body for full-bodied movement, and bring a notebook, journal, phone to record your experiences. The workshop will incorporate improvisation and set material.
