Megan Curet is a Bronx Native Nuyorican dancer, choreographer and educator. Currently completing a practice led research PhD in decolonial methodology within dance at The University of Plymouth. Curet’s practice expands upon the elements of bomba from Puerto Roco through cultural syncretism of contemporary dance in her public facing En Ritmo workshops.
A graduate of CUNY BACCALAUREATE with a BA in Theater and Dance Performance before training at the Martha Graham School in New York City. Curet later received a Masters in Dance Studies at Roehampton University in London. She has taught at universities such as Roehampton University in London, Franklin and Marshall College, The University of Maryland and CUNY’s Lehman College and BMCC. Other public community programming efforts include the annual youth dance symposium “Bronx Grows Dance” which takes place at BAAD and made possible through Pepatian South Bronx.
Former Coordinator to the Artist of Color Council at Movement Research, founder and artistic director of Curet Performance Project a contemporary dance company and founder/editor of former online dance magazines TiLLT Magazine. Curet’s work, choreography and practice has toured South America, The Middle East, The Caribbean, North America and Europe. Recipient of the 2022 Dancing Futures Artist Residency. Her works have also been supported by the Jerome Foundation and NYC Cultural Affairs.
Her recent academic publications include the Movement Research Performance Journal. Now currently based in San Diego where she is also working as a DONA approved birth doula alongside her dance and research practice. She is a community dancer for San Diego Dance Theater and BKSoul Dance, and a commissioned choreographer and dance teacher for Malashock dance.
She dedicates her work and practice to black and brown communities across the diaspora. Her artistic practice is rooted in Puerto Rican lineage and she often returns back to her familial island of Puerto Rico where she completes field work in Loiza as well as San Juan to aid her academic research.
