Stephen Shynes is a versatile interdisciplinary artist from Washington, D.C., known for his contributions to choreography, creative direction, and film production. His artistic journey began with dance training at the Duke Ellington School of Arts, culminating in a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Montclair State University.
Professionally, Stephen performed in works by choreographers like Bill T. Jones, Jose Limon, Antonio Brown, Andre Zachery, Beatrice Capote, among others. As a choreographer, his works have been showcased at venues including the Martha Graham Studio, Triskelion Arts, The Joffrey Ballet School, The Public Theater, and 92nd Y Harkness Center.
Beyond dance, Stephen has expanded his creative horizons into the realms of creative direction and film production. He attended creative workshops and the “Made in NY” TV & Film Production Assistant Training Program, contributing to productions such as the VMA’s, Sesame Street, POSE, NBC’s The Blacklist, and Steven Soderbergh’s Command Z Project.
Currently, Stephen is immersed in a collaborative work with Gabby Loren and Kynijee Wubah on SuRREALIST, a series of episodes exploring the struggle between reality and dreams, an innovative hour-long performance showcasing his dedication to pushing artistic boundaries.
