The Unknown Judson
a slide lecture by art historian Barbara Moore
Judson Memorial Church Meeting Hall, 7:00 pm
New York, NY
We’ve unwittingly accepted a canon of late 20th-Century performances that are to a great extent determined by repeated viewing of a limited number of iconic photographs. This, the first in a series of 3 lectures exploring the legendary (and largely untapped) archive of tens of thousands of images by Peter Moore, concentrates on activities in, around and growing out of Judson Memorial Church in the 1960s. Two additional lectures, Tuesday, December 9, 2008 and Tuesday, January 20, 2009 will place these activities in the context of contemporaneous intermedia events – such as happenings, Fluxus, music and multimedia – and their aftermath.
