UFlyMothership (collaboration duo Tendayi Kuumba & Greg Purnell)
UFlyMothership is a collaboration duo, Tendayi Kuumba & Greg Purnell, who are both artists in their own right. UFlymothership grew from ideas, curiosities, & celebrations of the Unidentified Flyness within black and melanated peoples. They have been creating music & performance work together since 2017.
Dancer, singer & songwriter, Tendayi is a graduate of Spelman College, BOLD facilitator/former touring company member of Urban Bush Women, & current cast/band member in “David Byrne's America Utopia on Broadway”. She has worked with choreographers Marjani Forté-Saunders, ASÉ Dance Theater Collective, Nathan Trice/ Rituals Performance Project, Jim Findlay's "Electric Lucifer" & Philadelphia Operas’ "We Shall Not be Moved" directed by Bill T. Jones.
Sound designer, director & music creator, Greg Purnell’s visual art and barbering has refined multi medium artistry. His work has been featured in Afropunk, BAM, OkayAfrica and Nike collaborations, BRIC Stoop Series "Barbershop Stories: it's all about hair" and BRIC TV's Brooklyn Made series.
Together some of their recent projects include U.F.O.”The Mixtape”, U.F.O: Stardust Melanin, & “The People'." Other works/platforms include “Incog-negro," Movement Research Festival, Danspace "Collective Terrains," “FLUXX,” Harlem Stage E-Moves, Hi-ARTS: Critical Breaks Residency, & BRICLab.
UFlyMothership generates productions that connect contemporary improvisational movement, music innovation, dreams, sound portals, science & ancestral energy. We know, we are, we believe we are the ones we seek.
