Sita Frederick (mother of Cheyla, 10) is a choreographer, performer, arts administrator and educator based in New York City. After graduating from Swarthmore College, Frederick performed with Urban Bush Women, Merian Soto/Pepatian and the national tour of Nickelodeon’s Dora the Explorer, Live! She is the Artistic Director of Areytos Performance Works, a multi-disciplinary performance company that presents innovative contemporary dance-theatre rooted in Caribbean traditions and the principles of social justice. Presenters of her work include Hostos Center of the Arts and Culture, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council - Lent Space, Jacob’s Pillow Inside/Out, Congress on Research in Dance, University of Texas in Austin, among others. She has worked in schools, colleges and community-based settings as a teaching artist with people of all ages. Currently, Frederick is the Director of Community Engagement Programs at Lincoln Center Education. Frederick holds a Master of Fine Arts in New Media Art and Performance from Long Island University.
