Mia Habib

Mia Habib (*1980, Houston, Texas) is an Oslo-based dancer, performer and choreographer working at the intersection of performance, exhibitions, publications, lectures, teaching, mentoring and curating. Her work is described to hold a culture critical perspective on body, identity, society and dance. She engages in labs and research with a variety of specialists including artists, scientists, political activists and others.

Habib has among others worked and collaborated with Tommy Noonan, Guilherme Garrido, Steinunn Ketilsdottir, Julie Nioche, Rani Nair, Jassem Hindi, Brynjar Bandlien, Monica Gillette and worked as a dancer for Carte Blanche, The Norwegian National Company of Contemporary Dance 2017-2018, for whom she also made a commissioned work Gjallarhorn, (2016).

She is one of the initiators of the global artist network Sweet & Tender Collaborations (2007) and a former member of the board of The Norwegian Opera and Ballet. Habib holds an M.A in conflict resolution and mediation from Tel Aviv University (2011) and a B.A. in choreography and dance pedagogy from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts (2003).

Her work has amongst other places been presented at: Tanz im August, Dance House Oslo, Aerowaves 2015, Black Box Theatre Oslo, BIT Teatergarasjen, Theatre Freiburg, Tanzhaus nrw Dusseldorf, Spielart festival, ULTIMA festival, Gotheborg Dance and Theatre festival, On Marche festival Marrakech, I'TRÔTRA festival Antananarivo, Keðja Reykjavík
