
Melanie Maar
Melanie Maar is a NY based dance artist from Vienna Austria. She lives nomadically between forms and communities, sensing for relationships in structure and meaning. Working in intimacies between movement and sound, animalism and humanism, femaleism and objectism is her passion. Her two year performance residency project Line Death Dance is currently presented by The Chocolate Factory Theater, including continuous collaborations with audio and visual artists Kenta Nagai, Christian Schroeder, Anaïs Maviel, Lindsay Packer and with the performance collective Masters of Ceremony. Her work has been presented in New York, Mexico City, Vienna and Berlin. She was awarded the 2015 Grant to Artists from The New York Foundation for Contemporary Arts and the MR Artist in Residency 2012. She is on the MR Artist Advisory Council. Working with senior citizens of the Bronx and teaching workshops for dance people internationally, recently at TanzQuartier Vienna, Pieter L.A. and at The New School/Lang College NY, have informed the -process as guide- series she created in 2017, an ongoing study group model for dance makers, recently curated by Janet Panetta’s International Dance Dialogues. Melanie has performed Edie Nightcrawler's repertoire piece Human Disco Ball as Die Leopoldine and has performed for and learned with dance artists luciana achugar, RoseAnne Spradlin, Daria Fain, Walter Dundervill, Luis Lara Malvacias and Gertaud Maar.
